BJT demands latest information regarding the 2019 land dispute issue
In a recent development, the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT) is pressing authorities to expedite the prosecution of a long-standing land encroachment case in Nakhon Ratchasima. The case, dating back to 2019, revolves around the Eiam E-San Tapioca Starch Industry company, accused of excavating three ponds over 16 rai on state and communal land without authorization.
Several defendants in the case include former deputy transport minister Weerasak Wangsuphakijkosol, his wife Yolada, who is the president of the Provincial Administrative Organisation, and their daughters Sudawan and Weereya. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) took up the case in October 2019, but progress has been slow, according to BJT legal head Supachai Jaisamut.
Supachai has demanded clarity from the DSI on whether the alleged offence has ceased and what actions the agency has taken. This demand for an update directly targets Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, questioning the handling and current status of prosecution in this case. Supachai’s post indicates frustration over stagnation despite evidence and involvement of politically connected individuals.
As of August 2025, the case remains under investigation without resolution. The Bhumjaithai Party is publicly urging government and prosecutors to move faster and provide transparent updates regarding the status of the charges and investigations against the Pheu Thai ministers involved.
Interestingly, Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, a daughter of Weerasak and Yolada, serves as education minister under the Pheu Thai government and is also a defendant in the case. The composition of the Eiam E-San Tapioca Starch Industry Co Ltd changed after 2019, with Sudawan and Weeraya Wangsuphakijkosol as directors, according to records.
The BJT's call for action comes amidst a broader political landscape. The party is currently campaigning against its former coalition partner, the Pheu Thai Party, raising questions about the handling of cases involving politically connected individuals. The land encroachment case in Nakhon Ratchasima adds another layer to the ongoing political tension in Thailand.
The Bhumjaithai Party's (BJT) call for action in the land encroachment case, involving politically connected individuals like Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol who is also an education minister under the Pheu Thai government, is taking place within the broader context of policy-and-legislation and politics. The BJT is urging for swift movement and transparency in the case's prosecution, raising questions about the handling of similar cases in the overall general-news landscape of Thailand.
