BJP Unveils 62 Candidates for Himachal Pradesh Elections; Drops 11 Sitting MLAs
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its first list of 62 candidates for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, slated for November 12. The last date for filing nominations is October 25.
Notable changes include Rakesh Pathania being fielded from Fatehpur, replacing the incumbent MLA from Nurpur. The name of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was notably absent from the list. The BJP has dropped 11 sitting MLAs, including a cabinet minister, indicating a significant shake-up.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will defend his seat from Seraj. Suresh Bharadwaj has been given a ticket from Kasumpti, replacing the current MLA from Shimla Urban. In Dharampur, Mahendra Singh has been replaced by his son Rajat Thakur. Chetan Bragta, who contested as an independent in the by-election, has been fielded from Jubbal-Kotkhai. Anil Sharma, son of former Union minister Sukh Ram, has been given a ticket from Mandi.
The BJP's candidate list for the Himachal Pradesh 2022 election has been announced, with several surprises and changes. The final list will shape the party's strategy for the upcoming polls.
