BJP Shatters Gujarat Records, Congress Victory in Himachal: Key Points Highlighted

In the recently concluded Gujarat Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved the best electoral performance in the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, surpassing the record set by the Congress in 1985. According to Home Minister Amit Shah, if the BJP wins again in Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel would return as Chief Minister.

As of the latest count, the BJP is leading in 158 seats in Gujarat, with a majority mark of 92. The Congress, which won 77 seats in 2017, is currently leading in only 16 seats, a significant drop from its previous tally. Arvind Kejriwal's AAP is making its mark in Gujarat, leading in 5 seats.

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP had initially taken an early lead but lost it after an hour of counting. Incumbent Chief Minister Jairam Thakur of Himachal Pradesh has conceded defeat, marking a change in the political landscape of the state. The Congress is currently leading in 39 seats in Himachal Pradesh, a pattern that follows the last few decades' trend, giving the Congress a bonus point in the state.

The BJP had been banking on the accomplishments of PM Modi for a smooth transition to a second term in Himachal Pradesh. However, the party's campaign seemed to falter, with Chief Minister Jairam Thakur missing from many party hoardings in the state. In contrast, PM Modi flagged off a Vande Bharat Express and opened a new AIIMS at Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh before the elections.

AAP almost dropped out of the race in Himachal Pradesh to focus on Gujarat and Delhi. The party's performance in Gujarat, even if it doesn't reach double digits, is expected to mark the start of AAP's journey as a national party. AAP's grip in Gujarat is expected to bring a change in the binary politics of the state and present the BJP with a more consistent and calculated challenger than the Congress.

Incumbent Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set for a massive win in his constituency Ghatlodia in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Congress, focused on its Bharat Jodo Yatra, is perceived as mounting a token campaign in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, a strategy that may have contributed to the party's poor performance in these states.

The results of these elections will shape the political landscape of both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for the next five years. As the dust settles, it becomes clear that the BJP's strategy of leveraging PM Modi's popularity has paid off in Gujarat, while the Congress's focus on its Bharat Jodo Yatra may have backfired in both states. The rise of AAP in Gujarat, however, promises to bring a new dynamic to the state's politics.
