BJP in Karnataka Offers Rs 25 Lakh to Family of Deceased Hindu Advocate; Calls for NIA Investigation

Mangaluru: The State of Karnataka witnessed a grim day as the BJP announced a substantial compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family of the late Hindu activist, Suhas Shetty. The activist was brutally murdered by a gang of thugs in broad daylight. The BJP has left no stone unturned, demanding a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The body of Suhas Shetty was laid to rest after a horrific and savage killing. The incident happened before the echoes of the Pahalgam terror attack had even subsided, leaving the citizens of Mangaluru in shock and despair. State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra, who was present for the funeral, spoke up about the matter.

"The brutal slaying of our brother Suhas Shetty, a daring Hindu worker, took place under the unforgiving glare of the sun. It's disheartening that the police department failed to protect him despite numerous warnings and threats. Our internal investigation concludes that this is an evident failure in providing adequate protection to our citizens," Vijayendra said.

He further expressed his deep concern, stating, "The BJP is seized by the gravity of the situation, and we stand with the family in their moment of sorrow. We have decided to offer a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and extend our unwavering support to them during these trying times."

Vijayendra then turned his attention to the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, urging them to recognize the seriousness of the case and provide adequate compensation from the state government.

However, BJP's Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, was not pleased with the initial response from the police department. He accused the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Karnataka Forum for Dignity workers, claiming them to be 'jihadi elements'.

Ashoka alleged, "The murderers belong to these so-called 'jihadi elements.' I had received a call from the Police Commissioner, but I vehemently refused to engage in a conversation. I have heard through the grapevine that a 'surrender team' is being planned. Let me tell you, surrenders are mere theatrics when the real criminals are hidden. The police are caught in a rut, waiting for the surrender team to materialize."

Ashoka was not alone in his criticism. He lashed out at the police in another incident, accusing them of fabricating a mentally challenged man as an accused in a cow udder slashing incident in Bengaluru.

Ashoka was not amused, "Even though threats were made a week ago, declaring Suhas Shetty the next target, the police did not provide any protection. To be honest, I wonder if there even is a police force in this state."

"On one hand, the Chief Minister showcases his disdain for police officers in public, and on the other, Congress offices have almost become police stations. I have no faith in this so-called investigation," Ashoka added.

Ashoka reiterated his demand for an NIA probe, stating, "Every time 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans are heard, a killing follows. Siddaramaiah's past actions are linked to the killings of Hindu workers. During his previous term, the state Cabinet released 1,600 PFI activists, emboldening them to commit murderous acts without fear. If proper investigation is not conducted, the cycle of revenge killings will continue unabated."

He also claimed that weeks before his murder, Suhas Shetty had been warned by the police not to carry weapons in his vehicle, and his vehicle had been searched.

"So, how in the world did this message reach the killers? If he had a weapon, he might have had a chance to defend himself. The murder took place within the same half-kilometer radius where the police were present. Yet, they didn't rush to the scene," Ashoka asked, voicing his frustration.

Senior BJP leader and former Minister M.P. Renukacharya criticized the police for their inaction. He questioned the police's unusual treatment between cases, remarking, "Twenty people were swiftly arrested in connection with the Mohammad Ashraf mob lynching case. But in Suhas Shetty's murder, despite video evidence of the perpetrators, no arrests have been made."

Renukacharya also alleged that Hindus were being brainwashed in temples whereas madrassas were teaching children to attack Hindus.

"I urge the authorities to crush those responsible for the murder of our Hindu activists. There have been 56 such murders under Siddaramaiah's leadership. We will not stay silent as our fellow Hindus are being brutalized. Hindus are not weak, and we will not allow this to go unchallenged," Renukacharya asserted.

  1. Despite the tragic murder of Suhas Shetty in Karnataka, the state government has yet to acknowledge the gravity of the situation, with R. Ashoka, the BJP's Leader of the Opposition, urging them to provide adequate compensation.
  2. Suhas Shetty's family received a compensation of Rs 25 lakh from the BJP, but Ashoka has been critical of the police department in their handling of the case, alleging that they are caught in a rut and have allowed 'jihadi elements' to carry out the attack.
  3. Amidst the general news and politics, the crime-and-justice sector in Karnataka has been under scrutiny, with senior BJP leader M.P. Renukacharya questioning the police's inaction in the murder of Suhas Shetty and other Hindu activists.
  4. The BJP has been vocal about their demand for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency into Suhas Shetty's murder, with the party claiming that if proper investigation is not conducted, the cycle of revenge killings will continue.
