BJP claim victory in Shahdhara constituency, Delhi, following campaign led by Naidu, ending 32-year absence for party in the area.

The Delhi Assembly election polls, held on February 5, culminated in a significant victory for the BJP on February 8, as Sanjay Goyal won the Shahdara Assembly constituency. This marks the first time the BJP has secured the Shahdara seat since 1993.

In the past, the Shahdara constituency has seen a change of political power. The Congress won the seat in 1998, 2003, 2008, and in 2013, while the Shiromani Akali Dal emerged victorious in 2015 and 2020. The AAP candidates were the winners in these two years.

During the campaign, several prominent political figures visited the Shahdara constituency to support the BJP. TD supremo and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu campaigned for BJP candidates in the Delhi Assembly election polls, and specifically in the Shahdara Assembly constituency, he urged voters to vote for BJP candidate Sanjay Goyal. Alongside Naidu, Manoharlal Khattar also campaigned for the BJP in the Shahdara constituency.

The BJP received campaign support from its allies in the Delhi election polls, and Sanjay Goyal, the BJP candidate, addressed the public during the campaign. He claimed that while the AAP candidate distributed liquor, he would address the grievances of the Andhraites living in his constituency and try to resolve them, taking the advice of Mr Chandrababu Naidu.

Goyal's victory is a significant milestone for the BJP as they secured the Shahdara seat after 32 long years. The results of the Delhi Assembly election polls were declared on February 8, and with Goyal's victory, the BJP has expanded its presence in the Delhi Assembly.

In a separate development, the Supreme Court has ordered states and Union Territories to notify rules for registering Sikh weddings. This order aims to ensure that Sikh marriages are registered uniformly across the country, promoting transparency and equality in the process.
