BJP Announces Venkata Satyanarayana as Candidiate for Rajya Sabha By-election in Andhra

Venkata Satyanarayana is the latest name to join the Rajya Sabha race, with the BJP announcing him as their candidate for the upcoming by-election in Andhra Pradesh.

At 64, Satyanarayana is a seasoned BJP leader from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, sharing close affiliations with the RSS.

Arun Singh, the BJP national general secretary and party headquarters in-charge, revealed the NDA candidate's name in a press release. He stated, "The central election committee of the BJP has selected one candidate, Satyanarayana, for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Andhra Pradesh."

Satyanarayana, a lawyer by profession, has a long history of serving the party in Bhimavaram. He held various roles within the party and was even the party's vice president for Andhra Pradesh between 2018 and 2021. As of now, he serves as the chairman of the BJP state disciplinary committee.

His political journey doesn't end there. Satyanarayana played a significant role in the saffron party's election manifesto drafting committee for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the 2014 polls. Plus, he even tried his hand at representing the constituency when he contested the 1996 Parliamentary elections from Narasapuram.

The by-poll was necessitated after former YSRCP leader V Vijayasai Reddy resigned from the Rajya Sabha. Andhra Pradesh BJP leader Pathuri Nagabhushanam informed PTI that the party's Rajya Sabha strength in the southern state will rise to two with Satyanarayana's election. BC leader R Krishnaiah is the other BJP Rajya Sabha member from the state.
