Bissara Asaubaeva ranks among the top three competitors in the "FIDE Great Switzerland" tournament.

In the recent FIDE Women's Grand Swiss tournament held in Samarkand, a thrilling competition unfolded, with several players showcasing their skills and determination.

The tournament saw a tie for fourth place between Tan Zhongyi and Sun Yuxin, each earning 7.5 points and a prize of $21,000 and $18,000 respectively. Meanwhile, Kazakhstani player Bibisara Assaubaeva finished third with 7.5 points, securing a prize of $25,000 (13.4 million tenge) and opening up prospects for her in the fight for the eighth spot in the 2026 contenders' tournament.

Bibisara's impressive performance in Samarkand confirms her high class and underscores her potential in the world of chess. However, it was Vaishali Rameshbabu who emerged as the ultimate winner, clinching the tournament with a perfect score of 8 points. Vaishali's victory earned her a substantial prize of $40,000.

Kateryna Lagno finished second with 8 points, just half a point behind Vaishali, earning a prize of $31,000. Meruert Kamalidenova and Elnaza Kaliakhmet each earned 6 points, with Kamalidenova receiving a prize of 3,000 dollars (1.6 million tenge).

In the men's FIDE Grand Swiss 2025, Anish Giri clinched the victory with 8 points, securing a spot in the 2026 Candidates Tournament. Matthias Blübaum finished second with 7.5 points, while Alireza Firouzja took third place with 7 points. Abhijit Gupta demonstrated his potential as a rising star by tying for seventh place with 7 points.

The outcomes of the FIDE Women's Grand Swiss could change the balance of power before the final tournaments of the 2025 season. Notably, Bibisara Assaubaeva trails only Anna Muzychuk, Lei Tingjie, and Harika Dronavalli in the FIDE Women's Events 2024-2025 rating.

In a commendable display, Kazakhstani chess players showed strong results in the final round of the tournament. The tournament served as a testament to the growing strength of Kazakhstani chess players on the international stage.
