Bishop's office funds disbursed to the tune of nearly 400,000 euros for Caritas International

In the Diocese of Eichstätt, Germany, a total of 391,400 euros was donated by its population to Caritas international, the aid organization of the German Caritas, in 2024. The majority of these donations, approximately 41,600 euros, were directed towards the victims of the war in Ukraine.

Caritas International is actively engaged in humanitarian aid distribution, focusing on war victims in Ukraine and Palestine, as well as flood victims in Southern Germany. In Ukraine, the organization is providing aid under dangerous conditions, emphasizing the need for protection of aid workers. In Palestine, specifically Gaza, Caritas has condemned the ongoing violence and systematic destruction of civilian life, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access, and the release of hostages and detained civilians.

In Southern Germany, Caritas international is likely involved in relief efforts for flood victims. In Pfaffenhofen, a temporary emergency hotline was offered, and a counseling bus provided assistance in flooded villages. In Schrobenhausen, employees rebuilt the flooded Caritas store, and affected people were provided with clothes, household items, a place to wash, shower, and have a warm lunch.

Caritas International also criticizes drastic cuts to aid budgets by public funders such as USAID and the German federal government, which have led to estimated cuts of 60 billion dollars in humanitarian aid worldwide, a 33% decrease from 2024. Despite these challenges, Caritas International assisted 9.1 million people worldwide with 105 million euros in 2024, which is the second-best result in their history.

Almost 33,650 euros were donated from the Diocese of Eichstätt to aid flood victims in Southern Germany, while approximately 34,390 euros were donated for Palestine. Most of the donated funds, approximately 180,000 euros, were transferred to the general disaster relief of Caritas international.

Caritas Internationalis continues to advocate and respond to humanitarian needs, consistently calling for improved protection of humanitarian workers due to escalating risks in these conflict and disaster zones. The organization strongly emphasizes the protection of humanitarian workers operating in these zones, highlighting the extremely high risks and fatalities among aid workers worldwide in 2024 and 2025, including those in Ukraine and Gaza.
