Bisa Kdei reveals why Ghanaian music groups often fail to survive
Ghanaian artist Bisa Kdei has spoken openly about the challenges facing music groups in the country. Born Ronald Kweku Dei Appiah, he began his career in the group Boys In Serious Action (BISA) before launching a successful solo career. His comments come as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards prepares to bring back the Group of the Year category in 2026. Bisa Kdei first entered the music scene as part of BISA, releasing his debut track with the group. Over time, however, differences in ambitions and work ethics led to their eventual split. He later explained that ego and a lack of unity were common reasons why many Ghanaian music groups struggle to stay together.
The Group of the Year category had been missing from the Telecel Ghana Music Awards for several years. It made a return in 2025 and will now feature again in the 2026 edition. Despite the challenges, Bisa Kdei's own career thrived after leaving BISA, proving that solo success was possible even after a group disbandment. The revival of the Group of the Year award highlights ongoing recognition for collaborative music efforts in Ghana. Meanwhile, Bisa Kdei's experience reflects both the difficulties and opportunities that arise when artists move from group projects to solo careers. The 2026 awards will once again celebrate group achievements in the industry.
