Ikea's Waltersdorf Store Turns into a Sparrow Haven, Sparking Concerns

Brandenburg - Ikea's bird dilemma in Waltersdorf. The furniture store has become an unexpected shelter for more than ten sparrows in its restaurant.

Regular customer Olaf Haase (66) from Schönefeld remembers vividly when the store was under renovation about a year ago. "It was around that time that the first sparrows appeared," he recalls. Initially, there were only three to four birds.

Unfortunately, the situation has escalated. Now the sparrows are fluttering around at head height, hopping past tables, and even causing a warning sign to be installed in the restaurant. Haase has tried to contact Ikea with no success. Despite their claims of addressing the issue, the birds still inhabit the premises.

According to a security guard, the birds enter through the revolving door at the main entrance, attracted by dropped food scraps. The store staff, too, appear to be at a loss. Despite previous attempts at extermination, the sparrows persevere.

"Initially, people either ignored it or found it amusing", says Haase. "But now, some customers seem rather bothered or apprehensive due to the sparrows' presence."

"Sparrows don't belong in a restaurant"

"I love visiting Ikea, but sparrows have no place in the dining area for hygiene and health reasons," emphasizes Haase.

Despite this situation in the Lichtenberg and Waltersdorf Ikea stores, warnings to avoid feeding the birds and maintaining hygiene have not produced significant results so far.

  1. Regular Inspections
  2. Sealing Entry Points
  3. Proper Sanitation
  4. Bird Deterrents
  5. Falconry Bird Control
  6. Professional Bird Control Services
  7. Ongoing Monitoring
  8. Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

By employing these methods, retail establishments can maintain a clean and healthy environment while ensuring customer satisfaction.
