Bird shooting commences in Harburger area
Harburg Shooting Kicks Off with New King's Proclamation
The city of Harburg is gearing up for a historic event as the annual Harburg Shooting gets underway. The highlight of this year's shooting is the coronation of the new guild king, scheduled to take place on Saturday evening.
The coronation ceremony will take place at the Kaiserbrunnen on Schwarzenberg at 7 PM. The new guild king will be proclaimed at the same location at 19:00. A special ceremony will precede the coronation, with a solemn march starting from the town hall at 14:45. The march will be accompanied by torchlight and the national anthem, in honour of the outgoing guild majesty, Ulf Schröder.
During his speech, Schröder addressed the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. A minute of silence was also observed for the victims of the war. A traditional wreath-laying ceremony was held to remember guild members who died in wars. The wreath is annually laid at the memorial below the Kaiserbrunnen. Alfred Gögeler gave a speech during the wreath-laying ceremony.
The Iron Bird, a symbol of the Harburg Shooting, has been placed on the Schwarzenberg in front of the guild house. The shooting officially opened this year, attended by around 80 guild members. Alexander Schmidt and Jörg Geffke prepared for the shooting, representing guild commander Sven Kleinschmidt.
The marksmen's destination will be the Königsburg. After the coronation, Ulf Schröder will spend a sociable afternoon with guests at the Königsburg. The parade will march through the Harburg city center, providing an exciting spectacle for residents and visitors alike.
