Buffalo Bills Running Back James Cook Signs Four-Year Extension Worth $48 Million

After a brief holdout during training camp, James Cook has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills, worth a total of $48 million. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed, making it one of the highest guaranteed amounts for a running back in recent years.

The 25-year-old Cook will stay with the Bills through the 2029 season. His agent expressed gratitude to the Bills organization, emphasizing Cook’s desire to remain a Buffalo Bill.

During the 2024 season, Cook led the Bills in rushing with over 1,000 yards and tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns with 16 in the regular season. He also proved to be a key offensive weapon, contributing significantly as a pass-catching threat out of the backfield.

The extension is strategically important for the team's upcoming season and future offensive plans. With Cook's proven performance and critical role in the offense, the deal secures a cornerstone of the Bills’ offense, likely boosting team stability and offensive continuity heading into the 2025 season and beyond.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen expressed his wish for Cook to secure a new contract and acknowledged the running back's absence during preparations for the upcoming season. Allen described Cook as one of the best running backs in the league.

Since being drafted by the Bills in 2022, Cook has played in 49 games, rushing for 2,638 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has also caught 97 passes for 883 yards and seven scores.

The holdout by James Cook during training camp continues, but with the new contract in place, Cook is expected to join the team fully for the start of the 2025 season. Josh Allen acknowledged the business aspect of the NFL game, and it seems both parties have reached a mutually beneficial agreement.
