Bill Maher and Sean Penn Clash Over Trump at Dinner: Maher Accuses Penn of Meeting with Castro
Sean Penn, known for his daring encounters, chatted with Bill Maher about his reluctance to meet Donald Trump. This conversation unfolded on Maher's podcast, "Club Random."
Back in 2015, Penn had a seven-hour chat with the infamous drug lord, El Chapo - a meeting that raised eyebrows. But in Maher's new interview, he calls out Penn for dismissing a meeting with Trump, citing it as a wasted effort.
"You'll meet with f--king Castro and Hugo Chavez - but not the President of the United States," was Maher's reproach to Penn during the sit-down.
Penn, defending his stand, expressed doubt in any potential rapport with Trump. "If I were, let's say, representing a cause célèbre...I would not fool myself that I was going to get anywhere with him. I know that I wouldn't. I know that I would have no influence," Penn said.
Maher challenged Penn, pointing out his friendship with Chavez when he passed away in 2013. "Bill, come on, you know Sean would lose all of his street cred - the guy called Chavez a 'friend' when he died - if he had dinner with Trump."
Penn's brand has often been associated with connecting with figures that some might consider adversaries of the U.S. Just last month, he questioned Trump's intentions, suggesting he might try to "destroy the world before he ages out of life."
It's worth mentioning that Penn's meetings with powerful figures like El Chapo have been under scrutiny due to their shady pasts. Allegations suggest El Chapo ordered a murder after being refused a handshake[2][4].
The debate surrounding Penn's selectiveness in choosing who to engage with continues to stir conversations. Whether it's Trump, El Chapo, or other political figures, Penn's decisions have certainly made headlines.
