Biking event spans over 40 kilometers across Rödinghausen municipality
In the picturesque district of Herford, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, a significant event took place on September 12, 2025. Uwe Nolte, from the Road Traffic Office, led the sixth cycle gear inspection, a regular occurrence designed to ensure the safety and comfort of cyclists.
The route of this year's inspection winded through Bruchmühlen, Ostkilver, Schwenningdorf, and Bieren. The purpose was to check the visibility and stability of traffic signs, the condition of the roads and paths, and other related factors. The inspection covered cycle paths on municipal, district, federal, and state roads.
The Herford district is committed to promoting cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transport. To this end, it encourages more people to cycle by providing comprehensive resources and training for cyclists of all types, from traditional bicycles to pedelecs and e-bikes. The District Sports Association and the police, in cooperation with the district, offer popular cycling safety training for these various user groups.
Safety measures such as the elimination of accident black spots, the installation of digital dialogue displays (speed displays), and the establishment of chp traffic inspections were key criteria for the district's admission into AGFS NRW (the Working Group of pedestrian- and cycle-friendly cities, municipalities, and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia e. V.) last year. The district's bike-friendly status was commended during the cycle gear inspection.
The 40-kilometer tour began at the House of Guests at Pemberville Platz 1. Along with Uwe Nolte, representatives from the police, the State Office for Road Construction NRW, and the municipality of Rödinghausen participated in the inspection. The experts also inspected various bollard locations during the cycle gear inspection, ensuring that all barriers, bollards, guardrails, and similar obstacles on cycle paths are reviewed for their necessity, as per state guidelines.
Beyond the cycle gear inspections, the Herford district offers a variety of cycling route maps, including everyday cycle paths, nature cycling routes, and day tours, which can be found in the district's geoportal. The district's active approach to improving the safety and comfort of cycling is a testament to its commitment to promoting sustainable and healthy transportation options for its residents and visitors.
