Biden’s Former Climate Official Now Leads Montgomery County’s Green Push

Jennifer Macedonia, a former climate policy official under President Joe Biden, has taken charge of Montgomery County’s environmental efforts. The county executive nominated her in October, and her appointment was confirmed in November 2025. Her promotion followed in December, placing her at the helm of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Macedonia brings years of federal experience to her new role. During the Biden administration, she worked at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in several key positions. One of her most recent roles was deputy assistant administrator for implementation in the air office.

With Macedonia now leading the DEP, Montgomery County aims to accelerate its climate change initiatives. Her federal experience, particularly in funding and policy implementation, is expected to play a direct role in the county’s environmental conservation strategy. The appointment aligns with ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and improve sustainability.
