Biden Steps Down After Health Concerns and Hunter's Controversies
Joe Biden's health and his son Hunter's controversies have been topics of discussion during and after his presidency. Recent events have reignited these conversations.
In May 2023, Joe Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer, raising concerns about his health while in the White House. This comes after Hunter Biden's business dealings, legal troubles, and addictions became a contentious issue during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Before leaving office, Joe Biden pardoned Hunter after he pleaded guilty to tax evasion and was convicted on weapons charges. Hunter denied reports of his involvement in White House meetings during his father's final months. However, Hunter reacted angrily to George Clooney's intervention in the 2024 election regarding his father's mental sharpness.
Joe Biden announced he would step aside for Vice-President Kamala Harris less than a fortnight after Clooney's intervention. Clooney had called on Biden to drop out of the 2024 race after observing his frailty at a fundraising event. Biden did not regret ending his re-election campaign, dismissing the idea that quitting earlier might have changed the outcome. Hunter Biden previously blamed his father's poor debate performance against Trump on a gruelling travel schedule and the drug Ambien. Hunter spent only 12 days in the White House in the last two years of the administration.
