Biden-Harris Government Introduces Nationwide Environmental Justice Climate Service Team
In Southern California, the focus on environmental justice, housing, and air quality is increasingly prominent. Here's a round-up of the latest developments in two cities, Bellflower and Pico Rivera.
The City of Bellflower is taking significant strides to raise environmental awareness both locally and globally. Len Gorecki, the Director of Public Works, recently updated the Bellflower City Council on the city's green programs during a meeting on a Monday evening. The city is implementing green programs city-wide, with a particular emphasis on projects that promote housing, advance environmental justice, and help improve air quality.
The City of Los Angeles will also receive funding for a transit neighborhood plan. The plan, which focuses on Transit-Oriented Development at 14 stations along the East San Fernando Valley light rail corridor, spans a length of nine miles. The funding, amounting to $420K, will be utilised to improve access to transit and promote sustainable development.
Meanwhile, in Pico Rivera, the mayor, Dr. Monica Sanchez, was engaged by the Pico Rivera Human Relations Commission for the event "Mayor's Empowerment Conference for Young Women" on March 25, 2022. The conference, which is targeted towards young women, will be held at Pico Park in Pico Rivera, California. Priority is given to projects that advance environmental justice, and The Green Scene, a local initiative, provides information to residents on recycling, conservation, and other programs to support these efforts.
In addition to these initiatives, Pico Rivera Mayor Dr. Monica Sanchez will also host her own event, the Mayor's Empowerment Conference for Young Women, on Saturday, March 26. This conference is another opportunity for young women to come together, learn, and be inspired.
