In the heart of Eichstätt, the 64 sixth-graders from district schools gathered for the 43rd edition of the Kreisverkehrswacht Eichstätt cycling tournament. This year's event, held on a 12.5-kilometer route, presented a formidable challenge with steep climbs, challenging downhills, and weather conditions that were as testing as the route itself.
The tournament, which took place under a mix of heat and occasional downpour, tested the resilience and skill of the young cyclists. Despite the wet and slippery conditions, the sixth-graders demonstrated remarkable determination in navigating the course safely.
The St. Michael team emerged victorious, setting a new record with a time of 35 minutes and 45 seconds. The St. Ulrich team followed closely behind, finishing in second place with a time of 36 minutes and 10 seconds. The St. Mang team placed third with a time of 36 minutes and 25 seconds, while the St. Willibald team finished fourth with a time of 36 minutes and 40 seconds.
The Grundschule Kipfenberg team showed great strength, placing seventh with a time of 37 minutes and 45 seconds. The St. Anna team finished sixth with a time of 37 minutes and 20 seconds, and the St. Walburga team placed fifth with a time of 37 minutes and 5 seconds.
The tournament, organized by seven schools in the district—St. Michael, St. Ulrich, St. Mang, St. Willibald, St. Walburga, St. Anna, and the Grundschule Kipfenberg—concluded with a medal ceremony. The winners were awarded trophies and certificates, and there were beaming faces among the participants from each school.
This year's cycling tournament proved to be a test of endurance, skill, and resilience for the sixth-graders.
