Bicycle event spans over 40 kilometers across Rödinghausen municipality
On September 12, 2025, the sixth cycle gear inspection took place in Rödinghausen, a part of the Herford district. This event, a regular occurrence in the district, was a collaborative effort between the District Sports Association, the police, and the district itself.
The inspection covered cycle paths on municipal, district, federal, and state roads. Uwe Nolte from the Road Traffic Office led the inspection, with participation from representatives of the Business Area Traffic Routes and Green Spaces of the District, the police, Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW, and the municipality of Rödinghausen.
The aim of these inspections is to identify defects in the so-called road and path infrastructure, ensuring the safety and comfort of cyclists. The experts paid attention to the visibility and stability of traffic signs, the condition of the roads and paths, markings, height differences, and field of vision. They also inspected various bollard locations to review the necessity of barriers, bollards, guardrails, and similar obstacles on cycle paths.
The Herford district offers popular cycling safety training for users of bicycles, pedelecs, e-bikes, and cargo bikes. Last year, the district was admitted to the "Working Group of pedestrian- and cycle-friendly cities, municipalities, and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia e. V." (AGFS NRW) due to safety measures such as the elimination of accident hotspots, the installation of digital dialogue displays, and the newly established cycle traffic inspections.
The maintenance and expansion of the intermunicipal cycle path network in the Herford district offers maximum riding comfort and safety for cyclists. The 40-kilometer tour for the inspection went through various streets and cycle paths from the town center towards Bruchmühlen, Ostkilver, Schwenningdorf, and Bieren. The meeting point for the inspection was the House of Guests at Pemberville Platz 1.
Uwe Nolte stated that with the increase in cycling, bicycles, pedelecs, e-bikes, and cargo bikes, it is increasingly important to keep an eye on the cycle paths. The Herford district's cycle traffic inspections are part of the measures that contributed to its admission to AGFS NRW.
Citizens can find mappings of various bike routes, including everyday cycling routes, nature trails, and day tours, in the district's Geoportal. The Herford district is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of its cyclists, making it a more bike-friendly city.
