Bhutan's Royal Family Celebrates Love in Vietnam at Historic Film Screening

A special screening of Love in Vietnam took place in Thimphu on 28 March 2026, organised by the Embassy of India in Bhutan. The event brought together dignitaries, film enthusiasts, and members of Bhutan's Royal family to celebrate the first-ever India-Vietnam collaboration in cinema. The film, inspired by the novel Madonna in a Fur Coat, was shot across Vietnam's scenic landscapes. It stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Avneet Kaur, and Vietnamese actor Khả Ngân. Since its release, the movie has earned international acclaim, winning Best Film of Asia and Best Director of Asia at the Seoul Global Movie Awards 2025. Lead actress Avneet Kaur also received the Most Promising Performer (Female) award at the Iconic Gold Awards 2026.

The screening in Thimphu attracted over 200 invited guests, including Her Majesty Gyalyum Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the Queen Mother of Bhutan. Among the attendees were the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Sandeep Arya, UN Resident Coordinator Gaurav Ray, and UNICEF Bhutan Head Rushnan Murtaza. The event underscored the deep cultural ties between India and Bhutan, with cinema serving as a bridge for further collaboration. *Love in Vietnam* marks a historic partnership, supported by the Embassies of India and Vietnam alongside other cultural organisations. Its success reflects a growing appreciation for cross-border storytelling and artistic exchange.

The screening reinforced the role of cinema in strengthening India-Bhutan relations. With its awards and cross-cultural appeal, Love in Vietnam continues to gain recognition worldwide. The event also highlighted Bhutan's enthusiasm for Indian films and collaborative artistic ventures.
