Bhutan and Bangladesh forge stronger trade and investment partnerships
Bhutan and Bangladesh have agreed to deepen economic ties, with discussions focusing on trade expansion and investment opportunities. A recent high-level meeting between officials from both nations highlighted plans to boost imports, explore new sectors, and consider a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin met Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay to strengthen bilateral relations. During the talks, Bhutan expressed interest in importing more Bangladeshi products, including pharmaceuticals, ceramics, readymade garments, and electronic goods. The country also seeks construction materials for its upcoming Gelephu biodiversity city project.
The discussions signal a push for stronger economic collaboration between the two nations. Bhutan’s interest in Bangladeshi exports and potential FTA talks could lead to increased trade and investment. The reduced tourism fee for Bangladeshi visitors further reflects Bhutan’s commitment to fostering closer ties.
