BHC has the potential to execute additional actions by three.
A Spectacular Second Half:
A sensational conclusion to the season is just what we need. "It would only be truly appreciated with some time," says BHC coach Arnor Gunnarsson, eager to clinch a win on the final matchday to finish the season on a high note. Winning their 17th game in the 17th second-half contest could be a historical feat for the BHC, as there hasn't been a half-season without any points nor 17 successive victories so far.
"Moreover, I want to win to avoid missing twice against Dessau," Gunnarsson admits, referring to their 30:31 home defeat in the Christmas match – their only loss this season. "Dessau displayed a phenomenal fast game against us," he acknowledges, admiring their rapid play as their signature style. He commends Dessau's center man Vincent Bülow for his exceptional reading of the game and ability to capitalize on power-play situations.
For the guests from Saxony-Anhalt, there's little at stake in the last match. With a victory, they could move up to eighth place, or, in the event of a defeat, theoretically drop to 13th. However, the BHC could extend their remarkable winning streak with a victory, securing the top scorer title in the 2nd league for Eloy Morante Maldonado, who has scored 217 goals this season, three more than Sascha Pfattheicher from HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. These two are in a fierce long-distance battle for first place.
"I'd be delighted if Eloy clinches it," says Gunnarsson, praising his standout season. "Yet, in my opinion, Eloy is undoubtedly the MVP of the 2nd league this season."
Once the final whistle blows, the BHC's intense, successful season will come to a close. "Everyone can then enjoy a well-deserved summer break," says Gunnarsson. The team will have a two-week vacation but will keep themselves in peak physical condition. Medical examinations and performance diagnostics commence on July 9th, followed by the first team session scheduled for July 13th.
While the Lions are certain to play in the 1st league next season, seven teams participating in the 2nd league are still fighting for survival. The title contenders are TV Hüttenberg and GWD Minden, struggling for the second promotion spot. Meanwhile, Bayer Dormagen, the Eulen Ludwigshafen, VfL Lübeck-Schwartau, TuS N-Lübbecke, and ASV Hamm-Westfalen are in danger of relegation. However, BHC's cooperation partner from Rhineland has the best prospects to stay in the league. "I truly hope Dormagen manages to stay put," says Gunnarsson.
