Beyoncé Wins an Emmy Award for Costume Design During the NFL Halftime Show
Beyoncé Wins First Primetime Emmy for Costume Design in Halftime Show
Pop superstar Beyoncé has made history by winning her first Primetime Emmy award, taking home the prize for Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming. The award was given in the "Juried Awards" category at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which took place on September 6 and 7.
The win came for Beyoncé's halftime show performance at the NFL game in Houston, which was streamed on Netflix and titled "Beyoncé Bowl." The performance, which lasted over ten minutes, saw Beyoncé riding into the stadium on a white horse with a cowboy hat, before delivering an electrifying show that left fans in awe.
Beyoncé, aged 43, shared the award with a team of designers. This marks her first Emmy win, separate from her nominations for Outstanding Variety Special, Live, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special for the same special.
The Emmy win adds to Beyoncé's impressive list of accolades, which includes a staggering 35 Grammy awards. This latest victory also makes her the first Black woman to win an Emmy for costume design in a variety, music, or reality show.
The other winners in the Juried Awards category at the 2022 Emmys include the Netflix animated series "Arcane," which won three awards for Individual Achievement in Animation for the episodes “The Boy Savior,” “Happy Progress Day!,” and “When These Walls Come Tumbling Down.” Alongside "Arcane," Amazon Prime Video’s "The Boys Presents: Diabolical,” Netflix’s "The House," and "Love, Death + Robots" also received recognition in these juried animation categories.
The series "Love, Death & Robots" won in four categories, including character design and storyboard, but not in the costume design category where Beyoncé triumphed. The main Emmy categories, including the awards for the winners of the main Emmy categories, will be announced on September 14.
The Television Academy has not yet specified when Beyoncé will receive her Emmy, but fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly awaiting the moment when the pop icon adds another prestigious award to her collection.
