Beyoncé secures a step closer to achieving an EGOT with her first Emmy Award victory
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter Wins First Emmy Award for "Beyoncé Bowl"
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, the renowned singer and actress, has added another accolade to her impressive collection. She recently won her first Emmy Award for her work on the Western-themed halftime show, "Beyoncé Bowl," which was held during the Christmas NFL game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans on Netflix.
"Beyoncé Bowl" marked the live debut of songs from Beyoncé's latest album, "Cowboy Carter." The show was a variety, nonfiction or reality show event that took place in Houston, her hometown.
The Emmy awarded to Beyoncé was a juried Emmy, determined outside the regular voting process. This type of award is given to recognize exceptional technical or specialized work. In the juried Emmy Awards process, all entrants in a juried category are screened by a jury made up of members of the appropriate peer group. The jury reviews every entry and can decide to award one, more than one, or no Emmy at all depending on merit.
This is not Beyoncé's first major award. She has previously won 35 Grammys, putting her halfway to an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) with only a Tony and an Oscar left to complete the quartet. She is also nominated for best direction of a variety special at this year's Emmy Awards.
Interestingly, Beyoncé's husband, Jay-Z, is competing against her as an executive producer of Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony for these awards will take place next month. It remains to be seen if Beyoncé will add more Emmys to her collection.
