Pitcher Report | June 9th
Thorny Thumbs
First up, Aaron Civale's a tough one to swallow with his 2.1 HR/9. Opponents have hit him at a .269 clip, and tonight he's squaring off against a team of big-hitting lefties, despite it being his Braves' debut. But rest assured, Civale's stats at home have been stout this year, flaunting a 1.80 ERA without surrendering a homer on his home turf.
Next, let's chat about Emerson Hancock. In his 3rd big-league season, he's struggling with a 5.19 ERA, letting opponents hit .289 while allowing 1.6 HR/9. Yikes! Hancock's on track to have his worst year yet, facing off with the red-hot Diamondbacks.
Last but not least, we can't overlook Andre Pallante. Despite a 4.91 ERA, his numbers start to look worrisome when you dig deeper – his ERA skyrockets to 5.68 at home this year, and he's struggled against this Blue Jays lineup. Pallante's allowed 1.5 HR/9 and has plunked down 5 homers in his last five games.
Weather Weenies
Now for the weather report:
- Los Angeles, California: Fear the long ball at Angel Stadium! Winds are blowing out to left field, and the low pressure combined with the gusty winds won't be kind to these underperforming pitchers.
- St. Louis: The Blue Jays ascend to the Lou with games against the Cardinals hot on their heels. Winds are blowing out to right field, and with a struggling Pallante on the mound, the Blue Jays might put up a solid showing.
- Two dome games that I'm liking: Milwaukee (Brewers/Braves) and Arizona (Mariners/Diamondbacks) offer some home-run-friendly environments.

Freeman's Fantastic Foresight (+130 via BetOnline)
Nick Pivetta's putting up sparkling numbers this year, but he's had some setbacks against the Dodgers' lineup. Pivetta's surrendered HR to both Freeman and Ohtani (2) and has seen a combined .333 batting average from these hitters. Dealing with a bit of a slump (0/9 in his L2 games), tonight's return to the West Coast and familiar surroundings against a troublesome opponent seem ripe for some vindication for Freeman.

Ketel Marte is catching fire right now, with four homers in his last six games! Tonight, he takes on Emerson Hancock for the Mariners. Marte's currently sporting a .294 batting average with 12 homers and a .603 SLG. Following a truncated season in 2021, Marte's played in just 39 games this year but his presence has rejuvenated the Diamondbacks' offense.
Over the last 15 days, Arizona's been crimson hot, ranking top-10 in runs, RBI, and homers. Batting .391 in the month of June and .333 against right-handed pitchers all season, Marte's small career sample size against Hancock and the latter's recent struggles make Marte an enticing choice for the contest.

In the upcoming games, Freddie Freeman is a strong candidate for home runs against Nick Pivetta, given their past history and the current slump Freeman is in.
