Betis prepares to bolster Juan Cruz's earnings with additional millions.
Juan Cruz's future continues to be a topic of interest in the Spanish football scene, with Alavés reportedly keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old winger.
Cruz, a canterano (homegrown player) for Real Betis, made his debut for the club under Manuel Pellegrini in the 22-23 season. However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he was loaned to Leganés in the winter market of the following season, with a mandatory purchase option in case of Leganés' promotion.
That option was triggered when Leganés achieved promotion during the 23-24 season, with the deal valued at one million euros for 60% of Cruz's pass. As a result, Real Betis is left with the remaining 40% of Cruz's pass.
Cruz played for Leganés during the 23-24 season and was a key player in their promotion. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with several La Liga clubs, including Celta de Vigo, Osasuna, Rayo, and Alavés, reportedly interested.
However, the transfer faces obstacles due to Leganés’s strict financial demands. The club is holding firm on a €10 million release clause for Cruz, and no active negotiations have been confirmed. Alavés, despite their interest, has not been able to get closer to Leganés' asking price as of yet.
The potential transfer fee for Cruz could be between 6.5 and 7.5 million euros, according to reports. If Cruz signs for Alavés, Real Betis could receive less than three million euros in bonus payments.
As the transfer window remains open, the future of Juan Cruz remains uncertain. He has returned to Leganés training recently, but decisions are pending, and the situation remains fluid as of early August 2025.
Despite showing interest in Juan Cruz, European leagues clubs Alavés are yet to meet Leganés' €10 million release clause for the winger who excelled in sports, particularly football, last season. Recently, Cruz's impressive fashion sense on and off the pitch has caught the attention of more fashion-conscious European clubs, adding another layer to his market value.
