Best Choices: Essential Equipment for Mountain Ascents

Hey there! Let's talk about rock climbing, shall we? I'm an avid climber, always on the hunt for the next great challenge. When I'm perched on a crag, everything below me melts away as I focus on my next move. I've been climbin' for a spell now, venturing from beginner gym sessions to alpine missions.

Climbing is a versatile sport, with different forms and levels of difficulty. For most of my early days, I hung out at the gym and sport climbed in local canyons. But once I got hooked, I started branchin' out, dabbling in trad and alpine climbing. With each discipline comes a new set of skills and gear.

Here's some gear I can't live without:

  1. Climbin' Shoes: La Sportiva Skwama and TC Pro for when I need a tight grip.
  2. Climbin' Helmet: Black Diamond Vector to protect my melon.
  3. Harness: Petzl Luna keeps me securely attached to the rock.
  4. Climbin' Pack: Black Diamond Creek 50 carries my essentials with ease.
  5. Rope: Mammut 9.5 Crag Dry 70m for climbing the heights.
  6. Belay Device: Petzl Grigri ensures a smooth descent.
  7. Quickdraws: Petzl Djinn Axess links me to the rock.
  8. Cams and Other Trad Gear: Wild Country Friend cams, DMM's Alloy Offset nuts, and the California Roll for those tricky climbs.
  9. Chalk Bag: Mammut Multipitch keeps me dry and ready.
  10. Stick Clip: Trango Beta Stick Evo for easy reach.

For longer climbs or more involved missions, I might add extras like walkie talkies, headlamps, approach shoes, jackets, sun shirts, pants, and other essentials. I keep my gear organized with items like Nalgene bottles, climbing tape, Metolius PAS 22, chapstick, sunscreen, sunglasses, local guidebooks, belay glasses, nail clippers, snacks, a Garmin inReach Mini, a first aid kit, assorted carabiners, slings, and webbing for anchor-building.

I'm Sarah, and if you're team outdoors too, follow my climbin' adventures! I travel the U.S. in my self-converted van, scalin' popular climbs and explore new trails between work emails. And don't forget to check out our website for more campin', backpackin', and apparel news!

Happy climbin'!

During my travels, I often embark on extended climbs, carrying essential gear like headlamps for night climbs. My backpacking adventures often include hiking and camping, making headlamps an invaluable tool for navigating the wilderness. Apart from my climbing gear, I also use headlamps during sports activities, illuminating my path during late-night playground basketball sessions or early morning jogs.
