Sven Ottke, the undefeated double World Champion in boxing, is currently recuperating in a clinic after a serious cycling accident on the island of Mallorca on July 15, 2025. The former World Champion underwent surgery to address a double fracture of the tibia (shinbone) and shoulder damage.

The surgery involved orthopedic procedures, including internal fixation with screws to stabilize the double tibia fracture, and operative treatment for the shoulder injury. Ulli Wegner, Ottke's former trainer and long-time mentor, has been by his side throughout this difficult period.

Wegner, who is currently on Mallorca with his wife, has expressed his wish for a speedy recovery for Ottke. The exact recovery timeline has not been officially released, but typical recovery from such injuries can involve several weeks of initial hospitalization and immobilization, followed by several months of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. A full recovery could potentially take 3 to 6 months or longer, depending on severity and complications.

Ottke and Wegner have had a close relationship for many years, often compared to a father-son relationship. They have been training holidaymakers together at a holiday club on the island for many years, and have also worked together for a week-long training session in the summer months. Ottke, who owns an apartment in Palma, Mallorca, has also been known to stay fit by playing golf and going on cycling tours on the island.

Reports suggest that the accident involved a collision with a car driver. Despite the seriousness of the injuries, Wegner has stated that Ottke is doing well considering the circumstances. No further details about Ottke's post-surgery condition or prognosis have been disclosed as of July 16, 2025. Ulli Wegner plans to visit Ottke in the clinic on Wednesday.

Although renowned boxer Sven Ottke is currently recovering from a serious cycling accident, his long-time mentor Ulli Wegner has expressed hope for a swift recovery. In their shared past, Ottke and Wegner frequently engaged in sports such as golf and hockey during their training sessions and holiday club activities on Mallorca.
