In the Crosshairs of Russian Spies and Hitmen: How Thrilling is the Mini-Series 'Unfamiliar' - Berlin's Deadliest Birthday: A Spy Couple's Past Returns in Unfamiliar

A new German spy thriller, Unfamiliar, arrives on Netflix from 5 February. The six-part miniseries follows Meret and Simon, a married couple running a Berlin safe house for people in deadly danger. Their past as agents resurfaces violently on their daughter's birthday, forcing them into a fight for survival.

Susanne Wolff and Felix Kramer star as Meret and Simon, former operatives who once worked under BND officer Gregor Klein in Belarus. Sixteen years later, their old mission still haunts them. On the day of their daughter Nina's birthday, a stranger calls with a chilling warning: he's been sent to kill them.

The series blends high-stakes action with intimate scenes, revealing cracks in the couple's relationship. As threats close in, long-buried secrets come to light, exposing how little they truly know about each other. The title Unfamiliar takes on a bitter irony—they thought they shared everything, but danger forces the truth out.

Berlin isn't just a backdrop; the city's streets and shadows shape the story. The cast also includes Andreas Pietschmann, Seyneb Saleh, and Natalia Belitski. With the final three episodes promising relentless tension, the miniseries is built for binge-watching.

All six episodes of Unfamiliar drop on Netflix on 5 February. The series mixes espionage with personal drama, as Meret and Simon confront both assassins and their own hidden pasts. Their fight to survive will test their trust in each other—and in the life they thought they'd left behind.
