AfD Slams Berlin's New Debt Spree: Party Conference Criticizes Loosened Fiscal Policy

Berlin's AfD party resists additional government debt - Berlin's AfD opposes additional borrowing

Gotta keep those coffers full!

The Berlin chapter of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has voiced its disapproval over the loosening of the debt brake by the Bundestag, which the party views as a path to "debt binge" that leaves future generations holding a heavy tab. This opinion materialized during a resolution passed at the AfD's state conference in Jueterbog, Teltow-Flaeming.

In an eight-pronged game plan, the AfD demands Berlin forego taking on new loans, even the emergency loans proposed by the Senate to address the burgeoning refugee expenses. To ensure a stable budget, they propose an immediate freeze on the admission of illegal migrants and a "re-immigration program" as essential steps.

Furthermore, the AfD intends to scuttle the process of decarbonizing Berlin's thermal supply due to financial constraints, as the Senate aims to fund these multi-billion endeavors partially through loans. Also, they advocate for abolishing the millions being poured into left-leaning NGOs masquerading as non-governmental organizations.

At the party conference, members will elect the Berlin AfD's state board rotationally. Contender for the chairwoman's position, Kristin Brinker, is set to run again.

But why's all this important, you ask?

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) remains steadfast in its critical stance towards large public debts, scrutinizing their implications for future generations and economic stability. Their disapproval of Germany's open-door refugee policy during the 2015 crisis and skepticism regarding climate action are indicative of this approach. The Berlin AfD's current resistance to debt increases and aggressive decarbonization efforts reflects their ongoing focus on fiscal conservatism, skepticism towards expansive social and climate policies, and preference for a more measured approach to economic and environmental challenges.

  1. The AfD in Berlin criticized the loosened fiscal policy of the Bundestag, viewing it as a step towards excessive debt that would burden future generations.
  2. Under their eight-point plan, the AfD urged Berlin to stop taking on new loans, including emergency loans meant for managing refugee expenses, and proposed measures like a freeze on the admission of illegal migrants and a "re-immigration program."
  3. The AfD seeks to halt the decarbonizing initiatives for Berlin's thermal supply, as these are partially funded through loans, and aims to stop the flow of millions into left-leaning NGOs.
