International Firefighting Brawl-Off 2026 Called Off in Berlin
Berlin's 2026 International Firefighting Competition Annulment Announced - Berlin's 2026 International Firefighting Contest Has Been Shelved
Oops, the International Firefighting Brawl-Off scheduled for Berlin in 2026 is a no-go! Despite the Berlin Firehouse having their best „Pyromaniac“ hats on and setting the stage alight with plans, the German Fire Protection Association (DFV) pulled the plug—and nobody is happier about it than them! Sorry for the drama, but it turns out they simply couldn't get their mitts on enough dough to make it happen. What a pity, considering the federal government had given them a verbal "we'll catch you" a while back. Sour grapes, federal government, sour grapes.
The World Firefighting Association CTIF slapped the bid on Berlin's table in 2024, foreseeing a FIRE-tastic event with over 3,500 firefighters from 30 countries, coming together to show off their skills in equipment transporting, gear challenges, sprints, agility tests, and good ol' water hose maneuvers.
This cancellation leaves a sour taste for Berlin Firehouse, not just because it's the largest and oldest professional fire department in Germany, but because 2026 also marks the 175th anniversary of their relentless fire-extinguishing efforts in the city. The last time Berlin hosted such an event was back in 1993, while the most recent International Firefighting Competition took place in the cool Slovenian climes in 2022. No word yet on whether Berlin's flame-out will be replaced by a smoldering symposium elsewhere.

- Regrettably, the Berlin Fire Department, in association with the German Fire Protection Association (DFV), has encountered insufficient funding, leading to the cancelation of the International Firefighting Brawl-Off 2026 which was scheduled to showcase firefighters from 30 countries.
- Despite the disappointment, the World Firefighting Association CTIF, which initially proposed the event in 2024, hopes for a future symposium elsewhere, given the significance of Berlin Fire Department, the city's oldest professional fire department, commemorating its 175th anniversary in 2026.
