CDU Awards Diepgen Prize for Social Cohesion - Berlin Sports Club Wins €5,000 Prize for Fighting Racism Through Youth Programs
The Berliner Athletik Klub 1907 has won this year’s Eberhard Diepgen Prize for Social Cohesion. The award, given annually by Berlin’s CDU, recognises projects that bring people together—with a special focus on work with children and young people. The club’s efforts in promoting tolerance and combating racism earned it the €5,000 prize.
The prize honours the club’s move2respect initiative, created alongside Makkabi Deutschland. This programme tackles antisemitism and anti-Muslim racism while fostering acceptance through sport. The CDU selected the project for its direct impact on young people and its role in strengthening community bonds.
The €5,000 prize will support the club’s ongoing work in youth engagement and anti-discrimination. The ceremony also highlights the broader efforts of organisations like Unionhilfswerk in mentoring young people. Both initiatives reflect a commitment to building a more inclusive Berlin.
