Berlin's Social Affairs and Integration Senator, Cansel Kiziltepe, Urges Increased Federal Support for Integration
In a call for action, Berlin's Senator for Social Affairs and Integration, Cansel Kiziltepe, has emphasized the need for the federal government to shoulder more responsibility in integration matters. Addressing the Minister Presidents' Conference (MPK) on Monday, as reported by the German Press Agency, Kiziltepe highlighted the substantial financial strain brought on by migration, likening the situation to the challenges faced during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Senator proposed that the government suspend the debt brake and invest resources to tackle the pressing tasks, alleging this is the only means to navigate the challenge successfully. Moreover, Kiziltepe advocated for expediting procedures in asylum and residence law, including the recognition of qualifications obtained abroad.
She highlighted the difficulties immigrants encounter in accessing the labor market and urged the removal of obstacles at the earliest opportunity. The Senator further argued that the federal government should acknowledge the unique predicament city-states like Berlin as key hubs for migration, requiring additional financial consideration due to increased pressure on public services.
Furthermore, Kiziltepe insisted that the federal government establish a comprehensive, reliable monitoring and reporting system to provide federal states with a clear understanding of migration trends. By doing so, it will empower states to better address migration concerns and develop informed policies.
