Berlin politicians voice opposition as additional far-right AFD gatherings surface
In a dramatic turn of events, Kristin Brinker, the state chair of the Berlin AfD, delivered a speech in the Berlin House of Representatives on January 19. The speech, marked by the departure of all politicians from the SPD, Greens, The Left party, and the CDU, was not attended by these parties' representatives. Only AfD politicians remained in the hall after the other parties left.
The protest speech by Brinker was met with the sudden departure of all politicians, an incident that has sparked controversy and protests in Berlin. According to reports, the politicians left the hall spontaneously during Brinker's speech.
The speech by Brinker, the leader of the AfD in Berlin, came under scrutiny after Green Party leader Bettina Jarasch stated that it is wrong to "listen to AfD denials" due to evidence of right-wing extremist activities. CDU parliamentary group leader Dirk Stettner echoed this sentiment, stating he does not listen to right-wing radical relativising and lying.
However, it is important to note that there is no available credible information about a politician hosting a zoom meeting with right-wing extremist groups and wealthy donors in November 2021 in Germany to discuss plans for mass deportation of foreigners.
Prior to the controversial speech, Brinker was present at another meeting between radical right-wing extremists. Martin Sellner, who laid out deportation plans at the Potsdam meeting, was also present in the meeting Brinker attended. The meeting took place at the apartment of the former CDU finance senator Peter Kurth.
The departure of politicians from the SPD, Greens, The Left party, and the CDU from the Berlin House of Representatives during Brinker's speech has led to calls for another anti-AfD demonstration in Berlin this Sunday at 4pm.
This incident follows a series of controversies surrounding the AfD party in Germany, raising questions about their stance on immigration and extremist activities. The party has been under scrutiny for their association with far-right groups and their rhetoric on immigration and foreigners.
As the situation unfolds, it is clear that the speech by Kristin Brinker has sparked a significant response from the political community in Berlin, with many calling for accountability and a rejection of extremist ideologies.
