For a limited time, Berlin's Reichstag will once again be swathed in fabric and bathed in light, harkening back to a captivating summer night's dream that hypnotized millions in 1995. Starts June 9!
Wrapped, bound, and transformed — Christo and Jeanne-Claude's legendary work has left an indelible mark on the world, reminding us that sometimes a simple cloth can reveal the beauty and complexity hidden within our familiar structures. This time, you'll want to witness it with your own eyes.
A Timeless Tribute
The monumental journey of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's awe-inspiring project began in the '60s, when they transformed ordinary objects into extraordinary sculptures through wrapping them in fabric. Now, 30 years since the original Wrapped Reichstag, Peter Schwenkow and Roland Specker are reliving this iconic moment with a vibrant tribute that reflects Berlin's identity as a city of creative courage and democratic ideals.
From June 9 to June 20, be prepared to witness the spectacular illumination of the Reichstag's west façade each evening from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., as the magical effect of 24 synchronized projectors brings the colossal structure to life.
Living Colossus 2.0
Reminiscent of the original wrapping, this shimmering behemoth will revive the phenomenal spirit of a collaborative effort that transcends the boundaries of art and architecture. The event is the brainchild of Schwenkow and Specker from the company 30 Jahre Verhüllter Reichstag Schwenkow & Specker GmbH, who are committed to preserving the legacy of Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Fabricating a Masterpiece
Originally conceived by Christo and Jeanne-Claude as a symbolic homage to the reunification of Germany, the artwork captured the dramatic spirit of a city on the cusp of change. Then, as now, the audience gathered in a amazing outpouring of peace, reform, and creativity, with hundreds of thousands of people congregating to witness the art. Let's make history again, folks!
