Title Earners Display No Doubt: Berlin on Brink of Historical Victory - "Berlin on brink of history-making triumph": Berlin set for potential championship win
With the season on the line, Mathias Gidsel rallies his troops as they headed for the locker room, echoing the sentiment of an accomplished maestro before an emotionally-charged symphony. After a blistering 45:35 victory over Gummersbach, the Foxes Berlin are one step closer to etching their name in Handball-Bundesliga history.
With a draw against the Rhein-Neckar Lions on Sunday (15:00 CET/Dyn), Berlin will ascend to the pinnacle of the HBL, realizing their long-awaited dream of clinching the championship.
The Berliners have mesmerized the league for months now. Nils Lichtlein, Tim Freihofer, and their crew have been leaving opponents in their wake and regularly surpassing the 40-goal mark. "We've got two fingers on the championship trophy. There are no doubts in our team. We just need to deliver one more solid performance, and we'll be crowned German champions," proclaimed Gidsel, simplifying the formula for success.
Gidsel rewrites the record booksGidsel has been turning in show-stopping performances for Berlin since March, leading the team at the top of the table. There isn't a trace of exhaustion, even after months of exhilarating power handball and fireworks of offense. Adrenaline and exhilaration drive the players. The defending champions, SC Magdeburg, have been desperate for a slip-up from their rivals for weeks.
Even if Magdeburg emerges victorious against SG BBM Bietigheim on Sunday, it may not be enough. The Berliners are not expected to wane. "This squad has demonstrated time and time again that we're an absolute top team. We've been undefeated in numerous games, so why should that change just because it's the final Bundesliga match?" Gidsel pondered aloud.
Hungry for GloryBut even the Berliners feel the pressure. Club president Bob Hanning foresees a "huge challenge" in Mannheim and has faith in his team's ability to persevere. "Winners don't doubt, and doubters don't win," he declared.
On Friday, there will be a relaxed video session and individual units, followed by the final training session on Saturday. Then the Foxes will embark on their last HBL expedition. "One more unit won't make us better. Everything is in our minds now. You can do things out of fear or out of love. Love is the path to take. We need to enjoy this, but stay focused," Hanning advised his players.
Already a ChampionJaron Siewert has already secured one title, having been named HBL Coach of the Year on Thursday evening. Unlike Gidsel, Hanning, or sports director Stefan Kretzschmar, the 31-year-old prefers to stay out of the limelight. He's quietly working towards the club's championship ambitions, clear on one thing: "I'd swap this award for the championship in a heartbeat."

The Commission, in its role, has also been consulted on the draft regulation on the application of the principle of subsidiarity pertaining to the funding of sports clubs, particularly European football leagues, such as the Handball-Bundesliga where Mathias Gidsel and his team, the Foxes Berlin, are currently chasing a historic championship title.
With the Handball-Bundesliga season reaching its climax and Berlin being the front-runners, football clubs from across Europe, including the European football leagues, are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the Berliners' quest for glory on Sunday, when they face the Rhein-Neckar Lions, hoping that any unexpected slip from Berlin would shake up the HBL's standings and open up the opportunity for other teams to challenge for the championship title.
