City Cleaning Service to Help Districts with Snow Removal - Berlin launches urgent plan to fight black ice across key areas

Berlin's Senate and municipal cleaning services are stepping up efforts to combat black ice across the city. New measures have been agreed to improve safety at critical locations, including schools, hospitals, and transport hubs. The plan involves closer cooperation between agencies and extra resources for affected areas.

Transport Senator Ute Bonde met with department heads and agency representatives to finalise the response. Staff from road and green space offices will now be redeployed to help clear icy hazards. Their focus will be on high-priority sites where black ice poses the greatest risk.

The BSR will supply additional grit and snow-clearing equipment to district teams. This support aims to boost local efforts in tackling slippery conditions. A further meeting to refine the joint strategy is set for Monday, February 2.

No details have been released on which districts will receive extra winter services. The Senate has also not specified which streets or green areas will be prioritised for salting and clearing.

The new measures will see BSR teams working alongside regulatory agencies to address black ice dangers. Extra staff and equipment are being directed to key locations to reduce risks for residents. The next coordination meeting will confirm final arrangements for the citywide response.
