Repair Bonus to be Continued After All - Berlin Extends Sustainability Initiatives, Boosts Repair Bonus

Berlin's commitment to sustainability and waste reduction continues with the extension of several key initiatives. The city has announced that funding for the 'Clean City' initiative in various districts will persist, along with neighborhood bulky waste collection days in selected areas. Meanwhile, park wardens will maintain their presence in certain parks to ensure visitor compliance with waste management rules.

The popular Repair Bonus program, which supports repairs in cafés and similar initiatives, has been extended for two more years, from 2026 to 2027, with an annual allocation of 1.25 million euros. This move comes after funds for 2025 were exhausted mid-year due to its popularity among Berlin residents. The program encourages sustainable use of electrical devices, reduces waste, and conserves resources.

The state will continue to cover up to 50% of repair costs and fully cover replacement part costs for repairs done in these initiatives. However, the specific organization responsible for covering repair costs when they exceed €200 is not explicitly mentioned and may vary, potentially including local communities or non-profit organizations like the Nachbarschaftshilfe in Butzbach.

The coalition factions CDU and SPD have reversed planned cuts to environmental and climate protection programs, ensuring the continuation of these vital initiatives. Programs supporting small water bodies, small gardens, and green roofs will also proceed, further cementing Berlin's commitment to sustainability and waste reduction.
