Unusual Christmas decorations have taken center stage in the heart of Berlin, and they're causing quite a stir on Friedrichstrasse, near Galeries Lafayette. These decorations, affectionately dubbed "penis trees," are attracting attention – some amused, others outraged – in local news outlets.

Stopping passersby in their tracks, these intriguing ornaments feature phallic shapes covered in bright colors and granite-like textures. The iconic department store's QR code reveals a fascinating twist: these captivating "fauna" are part of a clever tourist advertisement for the Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan.

Peaceful and serene, Bhutan, nestled on the eastern edge of the Himalayas, has a rich culture with traditions that span centuries. Here, the phallus is a revered symbol representing luck, protection, and fertility, rooted in the 15th century when the Buddhist yogi Drugpa Künleg showcased his prowess over evil demons through this otherworldly power.

Compelled by the department store's botanical variation on a tradition, countless visitors have paused to snap photographs – some with humor and others with what appears to be skepticism at this unconventional connection to Christmas.

Fabian Winkelseßer, Galeries Lafayette's spokesperson, confirms the positive reception from customers. "Our clients have only left us with positive feedback so far. We didn't anticipate any reservations, but our customers delight in campaigns like this," he declares, whilst also revealing that these impressively life-like monuments are not available for purchase.

So, dare to venture down to Friedrichstrasse before the end of January to admire these artistic phallications.

Did you know? Bhutan embraces the phallus (known as "phurba") as a potent cultural emblem with roots in Tibetan Buddhism. Phurbas can be found in temples, rooftops, and even on houses, garnering the kingdom its notorious "Land of Phallus" nickname.
