Berlin honors 'Liberty Week' on the anniversary of the Wall's collapse - Berlin announces plans for "Liberty Celebration Week" commemorating the anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall

Berlin, Germany, will be the global stage for the inaugural "Berlin Freedom Week," an international forum championing liberty, peace, and democracy. The event, set to take place from the 8th to the 15th of November 2025, will commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall and the courage of people in the Peaceful Revolution, while linking these historical themes with today’s global challenges related to freedom and democracy.

Under the patronage of Mayor Kai Wegner, the city of Berlin will play host to this significant event, which has been described as a "City of Freedom" by the governing mayor. The "Berlin Freedom Week" is a collaborative effort between several esteemed organizations, including the Robert Havemann Society, the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation, the World Liberty Congress, and the Berlin Representative for the Processing of the SED Dictatorship.

The vision of the "Berlin Freedom Week" is a free and democratic world, and the event aims to serve as a platform for individuals who fight for freedom and a democratic world. The program is designed for both politically engaged experts and the general public in Berlin and beyond, providing a platform for supporters of human rights and democratic values.

The week will feature a broad range of activities, including high-level conferences and dialogue formats, workshops, concerts, film screenings, exhibitions, theatre performances, guided city tours, and conversations with contemporary witnesses. The key event of the week will be the Berlin Freedom Conference, scheduled for the 10th of November at the Gasometer Schöneberg, where about 800 representatives and leaders from politics, business, civil society, culture, and media will gather to develop strategies to defend and strengthen freedom and democracy worldwide.

Berlin will also host the General Assembly of the World Liberty Congress, the largest global alliance of pro-democracy leaders, with over 200 delegates from more than 60 autocratic countries participating. This linking of the global fight for freedom with Berlin’s legacy is a testament to the courage and bravery of those involved in the event.

Organizations and institutions are invited to contribute their own programs centered around the themes of freedom and democracy, adding to the rich, participatory nature of the event. The "Berlin Freedom Week" is an open invitation to guests from around the world, including those from autocratically ruled countries, emphasizing its commitment to freedom, peace, and democracy.

The inaugural "Berlin Freedom Week" establishes Berlin as an international forum championing liberty, peace, and democracy, sending a strong message on the 36th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This will be an annual event aligned with this historic commemoration, underscoring Berlin's ongoing role as a "City of Freedom."

The Commission may choose to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, beyond the scope of the Berlin Freedom Week, as the event focuses on championing liberty, peace, and democracy.

The Berlin Freedom Week, with its aim to serve as a platform for individuals who fight for freedom and a democratic world, does not necessarily involve direct politics or general news related to ionizing radiation protection, but it does engage in discussions and strategies to defend and strengthen freedom and democracy worldwide.
