Berlin and Windhoek Mark 25 Years of Partnership With Cultural Celebrations
Berlin and Windhoek are set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their city partnership from November 17 to 23, 2025. The week-long event will feature over 30 activities focused on remembrance, education, and contemporary art, supported by both cities and local initiatives.
The festivities will kick off with the European premiere of the musical theater production 'People of Song' at the Humboldt Forum. Meanwhile, the Berlin Global Village will host the dialogue forum 'Reframing Relations', supported by the Berlin Global Village Initiative and the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt.
The Gropius Bau will present a themed evening titled 'Traces of Memory', delving into the shared history of the two cities. The Afrikamera film festival will also participate, showcasing an evening of Namibian films as part of the anniversary program. For those interested in Berlin's colonial past, daily city tours will be offered throughout the celebration.
The anniversary program promises a rich mix of culture, dialogue, and remembrance. Highlights include the artistic intervention 'Memory Scripts' by Windhoek artist Vitjitua Ndjiharine, reflecting the unique bond between the two cities and their people.
