Bergring to Rescue Pfing Race in 2026: Second Chance for Thrilling Competition
Hands off the wheel, ADAC's taking the reins: The Teterow Motorsport Club "Bergring" is giving way to the General German Automobile Club "Hansa" for the International Whitsun Race and the Auerhahn Cup next year. A deal is on the table with ADAC, allowing Hansa to run these events for another two years, including the Bergring race and the race around the "Auerhahn Cup." According to a letter from the club's board to its members, the agreement stipulates that ADAC Hansa e.V. will organize and finance both events under their name, while preserving the existing event titles.
Club's hands are tied: They can't steer this race ship
The board admits they can't prep, plan, and execute the Bergring race due to personnel issues. The positions of chairman and sports director remain unfilled, and they're still searching for an event director. Financially, the club seems shaky too. Although the unexpected tax demands have been settled, it's unclear what taxes may come knocking after 2020. There's no budget to sign contracts with big event partners either.
The board suggested outsourcing the Bergring race, but the general assembly nixed the idea. No one else has stepped forward eager to take over the race organization.
ADAC's stepping in to take charge of the driver field
With no other options, the MC board has been talking up the idea with ADAC "Hansa" business office members. ADAC proposed taking over both the Bergring race and the Auerhahn Cup as regional club sports events for three years, under certain conditions. The Teterow Motorsport Club must submit an application to ADAC "Hansa" by September latest. As of now, no agreement has been struck with the Teterow MC.
If they reach a deal, ADAC will wrangle all essential partners (e.g., catering, safety), arrange the driver fields, and ensure the races run smoothly.
No alternative, tradition must continue
In their letter to club members, the board stated that there's no other option to keep the traditional Whitsun events rolling for the next three years. Another cancellation in 2026 could have dire consequences for Europe's largest motorsport facility and the historic Bergring race's existence.
- The Teterow Motorsport Club is seemingly forced to allow ADAC to take over the Bergring race and the Auerhahn Cup, given their inability to prepare, plan, and execute these events due to personnel and financial issues.
- If a deal is reached with ADAC "Hansa", they will be responsible for organizing and financing the races, ensuring essential partners (e.g., catering, safety), and arranging the driver fields to secure the smooth operation of the events.
