Bensberg launches two major redevelopment projects in January 2026
Two major redevelopment projects in Bensberg will begin construction on January 25, 2026. The city's Integrated Action Plan includes significant changes to German Square and the residential park neighbourhood plaza. Residents can access design plans and updates via the city's InHK webpage.
The redesign of German Square will blend history with modern features. The project retains the iconic linden tree avenue while transforming the area into a contemporary park space. Approval for the plans came from the Planning Committee, aligning with Bensberg’s long-term urban strategy.
Work on the residential park neighbourhood plaza follows a separate approval granted in September 2022. The Untere Landschaftsbehörde des Kreises Rhein-Berg greenlit the plans, ensuring compliance with regional guidelines. Both projects will be built in stages, allowing partial public access during construction. No formal groundbreaking events will take place due to the risk of poor winter weather. Instead, work will start directly on site. The city expects all renovations to finish by the end of 2026.
The two projects mark a key phase in Bensberg’s urban renewal efforts. Design documents remain available online for public review. Once complete, the updated spaces will serve as modern community hubs while preserving local heritage.
