Benny Duckett's unfortunate dismissal under the bowling of Prasidh Krishna was criticized by Ricky Ponting, with Ponting expressing that it was something quite rare and led to Duckett's demise in the match.
In the ongoing fifth Test between India and England, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has criticized English batsman Ben Duckett's technique during his dismissal on Day 4.
Duckett, who started the innings in his usual manner, made an uncharacteristic change to his game after facing a couple of short balls from Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna. Ponting, speaking on Sky Sports, pointed out that Duckett moved back in the crease, which led to his downfall.
The critical moment came during the fourth ball of Prasidh Krishna's first over when he bowled a scrambled seam delivery from around the wicket. The delivery was full and seamed slightly, causing Duckett to play forward, but his front foot was not properly past the crease line. This technical lapse resulted in an outside edge that went to the right of second slip, where KL Rahul took a catch at waist height.
Ponting further commented that such a sudden change in technique, particularly when the batter was settled, was unusual and ultimately led to Duckett's dismissal. He also highlighted that Duckett started his innings normally, but his abrupt alteration in technique proved costly.
Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna was in sensational form during the initial overs of the first session on Day 4. His dismissal of Duckett, who was well set on 54 runs off 83 balls, caused controversy, with Akash Deep's send-off to Duckett drawing particular attention. Despite this, Krishna's impressive performance continued throughout the session.
As Duckett walked off the field, Akash Deep was seen putting his arms around Duckett's shoulders, a gesture that may have been intended to console the disappointed batsman.
