In an unexpected turn of events, British boxer Conor Benn has issued a challenge to Ilia Topuria, the current UFC lightweight champion. Benn, known for his high-level boxing pedigree, has a professional record of 23 wins and 1 loss, with 14 of those wins by knockout.

Benn, who prefers traditional boxing, has expressed his confidence in his boxing ability, issuing challenges to UFC fighters like Topuria to come box him. In a recent interview, he even suggested bare-knuckle fights but remained firmly within the boxing realm.

Topuria, on the other hand, is an MMA fighter with an undefeated record (17-0 as of mid-2025). While he is considered one of the UFC’s best boxers, his skill set is broader due to MMA rules. He combines boxing with grappling, wrestling, and submissions typical of mixed martial arts.

A comparison of their skills reveals that Benn dominates in pure boxing technique and experience, whereas Topuria excels in MMA with a combination of striking and grappling, making him a more versatile combatant in cage fights.

However, it's worth noting that Benn has no intention of crossing over into MMA or cage fighting, explicitly stating he would get "his ass handed to him" if he entered an MMA cage, reflecting a lack of MMA skills or desire to compete there. Topuria's willingness to box professionally remains unknown.

The rematch between Benn and Chris Eubank Jr., which is not a challenge issued to any other fighter, is scheduled for November 15. The monetary value of the rematch is £10 million, but it is not a bare-knuckle fight, contrary to Benn's challenge to Topuria.

Benn's challenge to Topuria comes amidst his strong opposition to MMA fighters competing with top boxers. He has stated that UFC fighters should not dream of stepping into a boxing ring.

Meanwhile, Topuria claimed the championship belt at UFC 317 after knocking out Charles Oliveira in June. Despite his success in MMA, it remains to be seen if he will accept Benn's challenge and step into the boxing ring.

In the meantime, Benn has demonstrated his striking technique on a bag in a video, showing his readiness for any challenge that comes his way. As the boxing world eagerly awaits Topuria's response, one thing is clear: Benn believes that any fighter who steps into the boxing ring will quickly realize their mistake.

Bookmakers are now offering odds on UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria's decision regarding Benn's boxing challenge, given the clear distinction in their respective fighting styles and environments. Regardless of the potential mismatch, Benn's confidence remains unwavering, asserting that even a skilled MMA fighter like Topuria will soon realize their limitations when boxing against him.
