Benjamin arranges for a significant clash in hurdles competition involving Warholm and Dos Santos
Karsten Warholm Aims for Redemption in World Athletics Championships 400m Hurdles Final
Karsten Warholm, the Norwegian athlete who holds the world record in the 400m hurdles, will be aiming for redemption in the final of the World Athletics Championships. Warholm clocked a time of 46.28 seconds in the Silesia Diamond League, the third fastest time ever run over the 400m hurdles, but finished second in his semi-final of the World Athletics Championships, behind Qatar's Abderrahman Samba.
Warholm's semi-final competitors, Rai Benjamin and Alison dos Santos, will also be strong contenders in the final. Benjamin, an American hurdler, finished first in 47.95 seconds and dos Santos came in second with a time of 48.16 seconds in their respective semi-final. Both Benjamin and dos Santos have shown they can challenge Warholm, with Benjamin last winning a global tournament in this event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships and dos Santos boasting a personal best time of 46.19 seconds.
Warholm, who set a world record in the same event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, remains confident about the competition. He stated that finishing second in his semi-final was part of his strategy for the final and that he "chilled" for the second half of the semi-final but would be ready when it counts on Friday. Warholm will have an outside lane in the final, but he expressed confidence about being on this track.
Benjamin, who won the 400m hurdles event at the Paris Olympics in 2022, also expressed hope for another competitive race against Warholm and dos Santos in the final of the World Athletics Championships in 2022. Warholm indicated that Dos Santos and Benjamin, who are "really good runners and hard workers," can challenge him in the final.
The World Athletics Championships 400m hurdles final is scheduled for Friday. Warholm qualified fastest for the final in a time of 47.72 seconds. Abderrahman Samba, who advanced to the final by winning Warholm's semi-final, will also be a formidable competitor. The venue for the competition has not been specified.
