Cincinnati Bengals Rely on Jake Browning as Joe Burrow Sidelined

The Cincinnati Bengals are facing a significant challenge following the injury of their franchise quarterback, Joe Burrow. Burrow, who has been a key figure in the team's recent success, has been placed on injured reserve due to a toe injury and is expected to miss three months of NFL action.

With Burrow out, the Bengals are turning to their backup quarterback, Jake Browning, who stepped into the spotlight in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite three interceptions, Browning managed to score the go-ahead TD on a one-yard sneak with just 18 seconds left in the game, securing a much-needed win for the Bengals.

Browning's performance has not gone unnoticed, with coach Taylor expressing confidence in his ability to help the Bengals win games and contend for championships. In seven starts in 2023, Browning had 1,936 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

As the Bengals navigate this challenging period, some fans believe that trading for Shedeur Sanders could help save their season if Burrow is out for an extended period. Sanders, a rookie quarterback, is being discussed as a potential trade option for the Bengals due to his promising potential.

However, if the Bengals were to make a trade for Sanders, he might take a similar view of Cincinnati due to potential limited playing time. Sanders, who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, the Bengals' AFC North rival, expressed a preference not to be drafted by the Baltimore Ravens due to wanting to avoid sitting behind two-time MVP Lamar Jackson.

Cam Newton, a former NFL MVP, believes that Sanders' personal experiences might make him a better player due to the totality of his position. Newton also criticised Sanders' decision to snub the Ravens, stating that it could have been a missed opportunity for both parties.

Despite the potential benefits of trading for Sanders, the Bengals have only made two in-season player acquisitions via trade since 1973. There is no strong indication of an imminent trade for another quarterback, suggesting that the Bengals are prepared to rely on Browning for the foreseeable future.

The injury puts the Bengals' playoff hopes in jeopardy, as they are currently 2-0. With Burrow out, the team will need to rely on their defence and Browning's leadership to maintain their winning streak and secure a spot in the playoffs.

In the meantime, Browning will look to build on his impressive performance in Week 2 and continue to lead the Bengals towards success.
