Benfica prepares for Mourinho's comeback following a 25-year absence, as a potential reunion with Chelsea surfaces.

Jose Mourinho, the renowned Portuguese football manager, is set to return to Benfica, the Lisbon giants, after an absence of almost 25 years. This announcement comes following the dismissal of Bruno Lage after a shock Champions League home defeat to Qarabag.

Mourinho's career has taken him across Europe's top clubs, including Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Roma. It was at Porto where Mourinho truly made his name, winning the Champions League in 2004. He coached FC Porto before moving to Chelsea in 2004, where he later won the Champions League title.

In 2010, Mourinho moved to Real Madrid and won La Liga in his first season. He then returned to Chelsea in 2013, winning the Premier League in his second season back. Mourinho twice managed and delivered three Premier League titles at Chelsea.

In 2016, Mourinho moved to Manchester United, where he won the Europa League, League Cup, and Community Shield. However, his tenure at Tottenham from 2019 to 2021 was trophyless.

Last season, Mourinho spent a season with Fenerbahçe in Turkey, but couldn't bring a silverware and was relieved from duties a few weeks back. Despite this, Mourinho was the runner-up in the Turkish Cup with Fenerbahce in the 2024-2025 season.

If confirmed, Mourinho's return to Benfica will be exciting news for football fans. The move of the "Special One" back to the Champions League is sure to create a buzz. If the schedule holds, Mourinho will face a swift reunion with old friends, as Benfica travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Champions League on September 30.
