Benfica manager reportedly yells at Schjelderup: "I haven't witnessed anything impressive..."
Nuno Magalhães, the red director, sprinkled some heavy criticism on Andreas Schjelderup, a young gun forward for Benfica. On a Monday radio interview, he bluntly questioned the Norwegian's prowess, harping on his failure to deliver anything extraordinary thus far.
"For all the hoopla surrounding Schjelderup, he needs to step up his game big time," Magalhães said, talking about the all the clamor on social media that squawked against Bruno Lage when Schjelderup was benched. He's this hotshot player with a media buzz that goes something like, "Schjelderup, he's the next big thing!"
But Magalhães wasn't impressed. " frankly, I haven't seen anything extraordinary from him yet," he confessed on the Antena 1 radio station's program, Grandes Adeptos. He wasn't convinced by Schjelderup's performance even during their recent match. "He had a golden opportunity, a ball served right to him inside the area, at the foot of the goal, but he could've done much better," Magalhães added.
According to Schjelderup's game stats from the 2024-2025 Primeira Liga season, he has played in 12 matches, accumulating 272 minutes and scoring once with two assists[2][5]. Despite his contributions, Magalhães was unimpressed with his team's overall performance, particularly in their recent match. "Benfica made a negative impact, even with the fans' wild reception," he lamented. "They seemed lost at sea, uncertain whether to attack or retreat, passing the ball leisurely, and that's just baffling."
