On a personal note: Ben Affleck on friendships in Tinseltown
Ben Affleck's social circle is rather limited.
When Hollywood leading man Ben Affleck isn't thrilling audiences with his acting chops in blockbuster hits like "Gone Girl" and "Argo", he's no stranger to heartbreak, especially in his love life. But away from the public eye, the Oscar-winner has a close confidant who's been by his side through thick and thin.
At South by Southwest (SXSW) in Texas, Affleck opened up about the importance of close friendships, admitting that he doesn't have a wide circle of friends within the entertainment industry. Reflecting on his tight-knit relationship with long-time friend and fellow actor Matt Damon, who he met through their mothers during childhood, Affleck said:
"I'm really lucky to have Matt as a friend. You know, I don't have very many. None of us really have very many friends. You don't need a million friends. You need a few. You need good ones."
Affleck revealed his philosophy on friendship during an interview with Business Insider at the same event, where he spoke about promoting their upcoming movie, "The Accountant 2", produced by their joint production company, Artists Equity.
Born out of mutual support during their struggling Hollywood days, Affleck and Damon have a history of collaboration that extends beyond their close bond. Their big break came with the acclaimed drama "Good Will Hunting", which they co-wrote and earned an Oscar nomination for in 1997.
During the SXSW interview, Affleck shared his gratitude for Damon's role in his life, acknowledging him as one of the three most crucial people alongside his wife Luciana Barroso and a friend focused on water activism.
